Bedroom Guitarist starter pack
Have you seen my profile’s caption/about ?
It says, “DevOps and Guitars”.
Yes, ✨GUITARS!!!✨
I think it’s time to justify that caption. This will be my first article in relation to guitars.
So, let’s get right into it.
Welcome to the other side of my medium channel!
This is going to be about recording guitars. I know there are thousands of videos out there on YouTube talking about this. Hopefully I can upload one myself 🤔 ……………
First things first,
You need a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) — this is where I talk like your teacher/professor — (we’ll be studying about this later)
But for now, trust a random stranger on the internet and download the following software hoping I don’t infect your computer with some ransomware! Just kidding!
🖥 Some good free DAWs out there:
- Reaper— REAPER | Download
- Waveform — Welcome to Tracktion
Most things I’m mentioning here are free (most of them are open-source software),
but there are some things you’ll need to buy, (hopefully you are not broke)
- a laptop/desktop with decent specs. 💻
- an audio-interface.🎛️
- audio cables. 📌➰ (time we signed a petition for audio cable emoji)
- studio monitors or in-ear monitors. 🔊🔊 🦻🦻
- and, a guitar, duh! 🎸
Laptop:
Any laptop with minimum 8GB RAM and decent CPU should do the job.
Audio-interface:
I use https://amzn.to/3Db0wUS
Audio cables:
For connecting guitar to the audio interface: https://amzn.to/3XXPbRO
For connecting studio monitors to the interface: https://amzn.to/3PXgBFl (if you use studio monitors instead of headphones)
Studio monitors:
https://amzn.to/3JXDa95
In-ear monitors:
https://amzn.to/43qF5tL
Guitars:
Anything really, what kinda guitarist are you without a guitar 😪
However, if you’re completely new to this:
https://amzn.to/3DfjLge
https://amzn.to/3NPMgWI
That’s it! That’s all you need to be recording your guitars!
Oh wait! what you really need is the skill to play a guitar 🫥💀
Sorry! Not Sorry!
Now, this was just about the stuff you need to get started, like a shopping list!
I’ll talk about how to connect your guitar to your computer, and actually record your playing in a different article, which could actually make this a series. A series, hmm, do we really need a series? I don’t know.
But, till then, you can post on instagram, pictures of all the gear that you bought because someone on medium asked you to!
After that I want you to arrange all the items you bought on the floor in front of you and doom stare until my next article in this series!
Ok, Bye!
